I am at the age where I need to think about transition.
My projections for my remaining years of service are between 3 and 5 years as of May 2023. I plan on providing in-person and virtual tax services for the next 2 years, 2024 and 2025, but will no longer accept new clients needing an appointment at the Broadway office. There is simply not capacity at that facility.
At the conclusion of the 2025 season, I have a decision to make. Transition entirely to another practitioner and close my practice, or continue in a online/remote capacity only. At present, I am thinking it will be a mixture of the two. Some clients will always want to come by in-person and I have been working on developing a referral network.
My practice plan is contingent on my status as department head for the College. If I am asked to continue in that role for an additional three years, then I suspect that effort will consume my time and energy. I will only be able to work offline and remotely for tax and consulting clients – truly in my spare time.
My remote work plan would take me through the 2027 season. After that, I would discontinue my practice and be completely closed by November that year.
